Are We Still These People

In Matthew 5 – part of his famous Sermon on the Mount – Jesus repeats this formula over and over again: “You have heard it said, but I say.” As he does so, he makes some extreme statement about the way his followers should live their lives. When we read the rest of the New Testament, we see that these people took Jesus at his word and lived radical lives. But, do followers of Jesus do the same today? Do we believe that Jesus was serious when he said these things? Will we choose to actually live as he says? Are we still these people?
