Immerse: Poets

The poetry of the Old Testament reflect the daily ups and downs of faith as God’s people lived out their covenantal relationship with him. These Writings were collected and assembled into their final form during and after the Babylonian exile. Part of these writings were historical and include the books of Chronicles, Ezra, and Nehemiah. Part of them were poetry, and include books like Psalms, Job, Lamentations, and Proverbs. These works were intended to remind God’s people of their ancient identity, and to link them to their calling as God’s chosen people. Today, these same writings can encourage Jesus-followers in much the same way. We live in a world that has fallen far from God. The poetry of the Old Testament can remind us of our own ancient identity and our calling to be Jesus’ representatives in our world.
