Ephesians - The Story

Paul’s third missionary journey included an almost three-year stay in Ephesus, the capital city of the province of Asia Minor. The city was a vibrant center of commerce, culture and learning. Its Temple of Artemis was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Paul chose this strategic metropolis to be the hub from which Christianity radiated outward to the entire province. Later, while imprisoned in Rome, Paul wrote the Ephesian church. The letter contained two themes. The first section told the gospel story and detailed God’s plan to unify all humanity in his family. Connected to the first part of the letter by the word, therefore, the second section detailed the practical implications of belonging to God, that is, how the gospel story effects our story. Filled with both beautiful poetry and powerful prose, Ephesians remains an inspiring and practical challenge to us today.
