Kid's City Park: The Final Countdown!

When we started the KC Park project in mid-August, it was hard to imagine the space without the walls.  For years they had served as dividers, delineating classroom space from coat racks and a hall.  Their absence has created a crazy wow factor.  Don't believe me?  Bring someone along who hasn't seen KC Park, give them a chance to look around and see if they don't say "Woah!" at least once.  It's tough trying to reimagine the room with the walls!

We've been chomping at the bit to see the finishing touches on the Park.  Like the 80's band Europe, I've been counting down to when the Park will be completed!  Maybe you are too, so here's the plan: Painting starts Tuesday the 9th and carpeting will begin after it arrives Friday or Saturday!  After that, there's just a closet to be built, audio & video components to install and creative decor to be placed in the room.

Our kick off date is Sunday, September 28th!  We'll have Kid's City Worship at 10:00 that morning and our Family Worship Experience in the Park on Sunday evening at 6:00pm.

In the meantime, please pray for our workers' safety.
Please pray that God would use this space for His work.
Please pray that Kids City Park would be a place for Kids to be drawn closer to their Lord and Savior!

Thanks for your support throughout this project, the changes and all the dust!

Coming Soon: Kid's City Park

Over the last few weeks we've finally been able to see changes brought by a concept several years old.  We're still waiting for all of the dust to settle, but the transformation is nearing full swing.  The plan was to reconfigure existing Kid's City space into a worship center & gathering room.  Mathematically, it went like this:
One hallway + 1 unused classroom + 1 used classroom = Kid's City Park!
Thus far, walls have been subtracted, wiring has been multiplied, drywall has been added and as a result, the space is no longer divided!

What's bigger, better and by far more beneficial than the room's new look is the room's new purpose.  At core, we want to model worship for kids.  Adults gather in the big room on Sundays at 10 and worship with songs and prayer.  Likewise, kids will gather at 10 in the Park, worship with songs, pray and then go to their age appropriate classes!  We believe this will enable us to minister more effectively to children ages 3-5th grade.  We believe it will help them be more like Him as they sing about Who He is!  We believe it will help graduating 5th grade students make the transition from classroom to worshiping in the big room.  This why all the dust, stuffing particles, rewiring and bringing down walls.

As a bonus, the Park will be a multipurpose room available for other groups, by rental or reservation.  Using our space more effectively means having more space for ministry.  Not to mention birthday parties.  How cool would it be if a child chose Kid's City Park over Chuck E Cheese?  And what if at that birthday party, kids got excited about Kid's City-a place they'd never been before, but wanted to visit soon?

In just a few weeks, the makeover will be complete.  In the meantime, this is what it looks like.

Mid Week Memo

There is so much happening at South in the coming weeks. Here is what's up:

BACK-TO-SCHOOL CARNIVAL
School may be out for the summer, but it’s coming back in just a couple of weeks. So…let’s get ready. We have the opportunity to be a blessing to children by providing them with a backpack and supplies for school. It all happens Saturday, September 6, right here at South from 2-4 p.m. with a Back-To-School Carnival.

WANT TO HELP?
We are still taking donations of school supplies now until September 3. Each pack of crayons or #2 pencil can make a difference in kid's lives. Drop of supplies at the church office. We also need six individuals who donate a dozen cupcakes, as well as four individuals who can help with the carnival games. If you would like to provide cupcakes or help with games, email Shirley Blakely by clicking here.

SERVE25 OPPORTUNITY - LOVE CLOTHING CENTER
We need 10 volunteers on Saturday, September 13 from 9:15am to 2:30pm. Volunteers will help sort clothing and assist children in shopping for clothing on their list. It will be at Judson Memorial Baptist Church. For more information or to sign up email Carol Burghdoff.

FINANCIAL PEACE UNIVERSITY
We all need a plan for our money. Financial Peace University (FPU) is that plan! It teaches God's way to handle money. Through video teaching, class discussions and interactive small group activities, FPU presents biblical, practical steps to get from where you are to where you've dreamed you could be. This plan will show you how to get rid of debt, manage your money, spend and save wisely, and much more! Classes start Tuesday, September 23 at 7pm.
