Christmas Presence

Each December, billions of people gather in homes around the world and exchanged presents as part of their Christmas celebrations. Those presents vary in worth and durability, and eventually every single thing given will fade in value and significance. What retains value is the time spent in the presence of loved ones. Similarly, the gift that God gave humanity on that first Christmas was the gift of his presence in the person of Jesus Christ. Hundreds of years before Christ was born, Isaiah 7-9 looked forward to the his coming, and named him Immanuel – literally “with-us-God.” As we journey through each week of Advent this December, we’ll consider the ways in which Christmas confirms that God’s presence is with us.
