South Lansing Christian Church is passionate about serving our community!

Serve-a-palooza is all taking place on Saturday, August 10, from 10 am to Noon. We have partnered with five area schools and the Marscot Park neighborhood to tackle multiple projects over the city! Check out the display this Sunday in the lobby for more information or to plug into a place to serve. We are encouraging small to serve together.

Project Options:

Lewton Elementary
We will be doing outdoor landscaping at Lansing School System’s Lewton Elementary School. Projects include spreading wood chips, flower bed clean up and making the outside look cared for. Participants will want to bring wheelbarrows, rakes, shovels, etc. Erin Cohoon will be on site that day to coordinate along with some other volunteers and Principal Rich Gutierrez.

Number of participants needed: 30

Dimondale Elementary
Principal Shannon Barker has asked us to complete a number of outdoor landscaping projects. Participants should bring rakes and shovels and wear gloves.

Number of participants needed: 20

Hope Middle School
There are two tasks that need to be completed at Hope Middle School in Holt: weeding the landscaped areas in front of the school that is need of some TLC. Volunteers will want to bring gloves. The school also needs a sign painted. They will supply the paint and brushes. While no painting experience needed, this project will need a couple of people who are neat and pay attention to details because the sign will hang outside where everyone will see it.

Principal Jennifer Goodman will be on-site to answer questions and offer support.

Number of participants needed: 20

Holt High School
At Holt High School, there are a few things outside we will be doing. The front entrance needs some serious weeding and some more mulch laid down. They also have areas around the ponds cleaned up. Trash blows around from the school and road and gets caught in the long grass. Participants will bring rakes, shovels, and wheelbarrows to move mulch. The school will provide trash bags for the weeds and garbage.

Number of participants needed: 30

Sycamore Elementary
Sycamore Elementary in Holt has a small project that we will take on. Right outside the main entrance at Sycamore is a 10’ by 40’ garden that needs to either be removed so it can be returned to grass. It’s all weeds and looks awful. After removing, we will put down grass seed.

Number of participants needed: 10

Marscot Park
Lansing Parks and Rec have asked us to repair park benches, pour a small pad of cement, and delimb lower branches at Marscot Park directly behind our church building. Participants should bring gloves, bow saws or chainsaws, and for those who have experience pouring cement, the tools necessary for doing so.

Number of participants needed: 20
