Social Media

Social media, like all disruptive technologies is powerful and must be carefully handled. Powerful words distributed digitally are like arrows launched from a crossbow. When the trigger is pulled they cannot be retrieved and they cannot be stopped. But the biggest risk in social media is the threat to the one generating content. Though Christians strive to deny self for the sake of Christ, social media is decidedly me centered. I share my thoughts. I click on what I like. Unseen algorithms generate a created-just-for-me feed that reinforces my ideas and segregates me from alternative viewpoints, concepts and – even worse – people. Christians should be different. We need to limit the “me” in social media.
