South Lansing Christian Church is joining other Christian Churches and Churches of Christ in supporting Hurricane Harvey relief efforts by donating $2,000 to International Disaster Emergency Service. IDES has been the go-to agency for Independent Christian Churches to engage in disaster recovery for the last forty-five years. They work directly with churches in the affected communities to distribute money and supplies, and to coordinate Disaster Assistance Response Teams (DART) to help communities get back on their feet. None of our donated funds are used to administrative costs; 100% of each donation goes directly to recovery efforts.
According to Pastor Frank, “Our church has embraced our core value of generosity in recent years. Offerings this summer were very strong, and we are within a stone’s throw of meeting our year-to-date budget. That enabled us to be generous to our brothers and sisters in Texas who are suffering so terribly from this storm’s aftermath, and act quickly with this donation.”
A generous contributor to IDES has pledged to match gifts to IDES, up to $50,000. That means that our church’s contribution will double in impact.
We want to encourage our SLCC family to add a special offering to their tithes in the coming weeks. You can contribute by putting “Hurricane Relief” in the memo line of your check, or by making a donation, designated to Hurricane Relief, through our website or app.
While our initial donation will be disbursed through IDES, we may also be contributing directly to other Houston area churches directly, or through our partners at The Solomon Foundation. We are committed to organizations where 100% of every dollar goes to direct relief and rebuilding efforts.
In the coming weeks, we will also be exploring the possibility of work teams traveling to Houston to aid in the clean-up, which is expected to take months, so continue to watch for more information about how you can engage further in helping with the devastation in Texas.
